Rob Askey in his Birmingham University track suit

Manager:  Rob Askey       Assistant: Steve Slater

Many of you will be aware of Rob's high profile image within north west football.  A highly respected, old fashioned centre-forward for Macclesfield Town, Bromsgrove, Worceter City,Milton United and Milton Miners.  Represented British Universities in international tournaments in Canada and the USA. Was voted Macclesfield Town Supporters' Club Player of the Year 1984/85. Voted into the All-time Maclesfield Town XI in 1999. Was selected for the Northern Premier League Select XI. Perhaps the pinnacle of his career resulted in Rob trialling for the England Non-League XI. A player of the highest non-league pedigree.

More recently Robert has plied his trade as 1st team manager at Eccleshall. His 1st seasons transformed a side beginning to lose focus and direction. Rob's passionate style is appreciated by both fans and players. His warm yet determined character persuading a number of higher league players to sign for the fledgling manager. Once his blue-print was formed - culminating in the signing of highly rated Assistant Manager Chris Phillips (had to get that in there!), his Eccleshall side went on to win no less than 5 major trophies - including the unforgettable back-to-back Midland Premier League Championship (now the Staffordshire Senior League).

Renowned for his famous catch-phrases along with his impeccable timing, Robert remains a popular figure with all who have played for and watched those teams through the years. Many remember not only a great player, magic cup/league moments but also the Reebok cap, the inimitable one-liners, the flying water bottles and those unforgettable brown shoes. A true Eccleshall legend.

Rob took over the 2nd team reigns part way through the 06/07 season and stabilised a traumatic season with a massive influx of youth.  In fact already 3 of those players have gone on to represent the 1st team. Always a believer in developing clubs by giving opportunities to talented youngsters, once again the reserve team games are expected to follow the Askey brand of attacking, passionate play.
